Getting from an Airport to Brighton
The University of Sussex campus is well served by public transport with Falmer train station on the south side of campus, and frequent buses on campus to and from Brighton.
The adjoining A27 also gives good access by car.
From London Gatwick (the closest airport to botanica2018)
From London Gatwick, you have the following options of travelling to Brighton
- By train (the train station is located at the airport) – journey time no more than 30 minutes - you can book your tickets online here
- By National Express coach – journey time approximately 50 minutes and buses leave regularly - you can book your tickets online here
- By Car – a range of hire car companies are located at the airport.
From London Heathrow
If you are coming from London Heathrow, you have the following options of travelling to Brighton
- By train - you first have to catch the London Underground or Heathrow Express train into Central London and then change to a Brighton-bound train – total journey time approximately 2 hours.
There are direct train services to Brighton from the following London stations: London Victoria, London Bridge and London St Pancras. Trains arrive into Brighton mainline Station on Queens Road.
- By National Express Coach from the airport – most journeys are direct and leave regularly with no need to change buses. Journey time approximately 2h30. You can book your tickets online here
- By Car – a range of hire car companies are located at the airport
Getting from Brighton to the University of Sussex
Coming by Train to the University
Trains leave for Falmer from Brighton mainline Station on Queens Road. Falmer is on the train line between Brighton and Lewes, about 8 minutes' travel time in each direction. Four trains an hour go there during the day time.
Falmer train station is directly opposite the University campus. Pedestrian access from the station is via a subway under the A27 - follow signs for the University of Sussex (the University of Brighton has a campus at Falmer too) and there will be botanica2018 signage to guide you, just follow the footsteps!
If you are travelling from London or Gatwick airport and are coming straight to the university, take the train to Brighton and change there for Falmer.

Coming by Coach to the University
National Express Coaches to Brighton depart from London Victoria Coach Station and arrive at Pool Valley in the centre of the city. Services are every hour during the day and take about two hours.
National Express Coaches also run to Brighton from Gatwick (journey time approximately one hour) and Heathrow (just over 2 hours) airports.
From Pool Valley you need to walk 100 metres to the Old Steine where you can catch a local bus direct to the University (see Local buses section below), or you can take a taxi.

Local Buses to the University
The numbers 23, 25, 28 and 29 buses run between the centre of Brighton and the University, bringing you directly to campus. You can catch a bus from the Old Steine in Brighton; the number 25 also runs from Churchill Square. The numbers 28 and 29 go from the Old Steine and stop right outside the University campus on their way to Lewes and beyond. Travel time is about 20-30 minutes. Coming by Car to the University
The University of Sussex is situated at Falmer on the A27 between Brighton and Lewes, about four miles (six kilometres) from the centre of Brighton. (Please follow signs for University of Sussex on the north side of the A27; the University of Brighton also has a campus at Falmer on the south side of the A27.) Visitors from London and the north should take the M23/A23 road towards Brighton. Before entering the centre of Brighton, join the A27 eastbound signposted Lewes. Drivers from the east or west take the A27 direct to the University.

On campus there are a number of car parks. Car parks are not attended and objects of value should not be left in vehicles. On campus parking is free to conference delegates providing you download, print and display the official parking permit - click here to download.
Taxis are available at Brighton train station and at many other places in the centre of Brighton. It is about four miles (six kilometres) from central Brighton to the University. It is often quicker to catch the train direct to Falmer from Brighton than to take a taxi. If you need a taxi, Streamline Taxis are reliable and offer a great online booking service and have an app you can download.
